Ramadan is a blessed month filled with reflection, connection, and meaningful family moments. If you’re looking for a Ramadan craft for kids, an Islamic DIY activity, or a creative Ramadan activity for Muslim children, this tutorial is perfect for you.
In this article, I’ll guide you through creating a beautiful Ramadan pop-up book featuring a Dua that is important to say during Ramadan. This hands-on project is both fun and meaningful, helping children develop creativity and fine motor skills while offering a valuable opportunity to talk about the meaning of the Dua and the spirit of Ramadan.
Making a DIY Islamic pop-up card is a wonderful way to combine faith and creativity, turning crafting time into a moment of spiritual connection. It’s an engaging and educational Ramadan activity designed to bring parents and children closer while nurturing love for the Deen.
To complete this activity, start by downloading the necessary files here. They are required to assemble the card.
Please note that you can also follow the tutorial in video format by clicking this link, if you prefer visual guidance at each step.
After downloading the files, print them. Choose paper between 170 and 350 gsm — the thicker, the better. You can print at home or with a professional printer if needed. Matte photo paper is recommended.
You will need:
– scissors
– a cutter
– a bone folder
– a cutting mat
– strong glue
– tape
– ribbon
– reusable adhesive putty (optional)
And most importantly… creativity is the most important tool.
You can add anything you like: glitter, stickers, and other decorative elements.
Start by carefully cutting out all the printed pages.
It is very likely that you will need to trim the edges if the printer has added margins.
Cut out all the elements, including the small spacers and supports that will create the 3D effect.
Next, take the page with the starry sky.
Cut along all the lines marked

Fold along all the lines marked
“fold”
You can use a bone folder to make folding easier and achieve a cleaner finish.
Now take each landscape element you previously cut out.
Fold the tab located at the bottom of each piece.
This fold will allow each layer to stand upright and create the dimensional effect.
There are four different layers in the scenery, arranged from back to front:
The mountains
The trees
The mosques
In the foreground: the character with the mosque
Repeat the same folding process for each of the four landscape layers.
You will also need to fold the small tabs that will form the spacers, which create the opening movement when the card is opened.
We are now moving on to the final step, which is also the most challenging part of this workshop: assembly.
Apply glue to the areas indicated.
Position the three landscape layers in place (respecting the depth order).
After placing all the layers, you will notice that they do not automatically pop up when opening the card.
This is why we need to add the spacers, which will create the pop-up effect.
⚠️ This is the most difficult step — your child may need your assistance.
Apply glue to the areas marked

.
Attach the spacers to the matching spots in the scenery marked
GLUE
.
Once the tabs are glued, bring the two sides of the card together.
The drying time can make this step slightly more delicate.
Finally, add the spacers to the front layer.
Once all spacers are assembled and fully dry, gently press the card flat in one direction and then the other so the folds settle properly.
We now finish with the cover.
Start by folding the page.
Add a ribbon to make closing the card easier.
Secure the ribbon with tape.
Once the tape is in place, apply strong glue along the edges.
For a softer finish, you may trim the corners of the card to create a rounded effect (optional).
A few additional small elements can be glued onto the card to create more dimension.
Cut them out.
Glue them in the indicated spots.
To create extra depth, you can use adhesive putty, though regular glue works perfectly well too.
This is a special opportunity to talk with your child about this Dua and its meaning.
When a child is young, their fitra makes them naturally attentive and receptive when we speak to them about Deen.
